Stretching For Your (Mental) Health

Stretching For Your (Mental) Health

Stretching For Your (Mental) Health Dancers are known for their sometimes circus-like contortions, whether it’s pulling a leg to their forehead or bending their back in a 110° arabesque. Along with technique class and strengthening exercises, stretching is likely one of the largest parts of a dancer’s daily regimen. But what about “stretching” something other than your hamstrings? Can mental and emotional flexibility be a benefit to dancers’ overall health?  Just like asking your muscles to accept a new position—and pushing through the…

COVID-19 Update

March 23, 2020 Communication:  Dear ProAm Dance Studio dancers and parents, At PA the health and safety of our families, students and faculty are our most important priorities. The studio has temporarily suspended classes in our physical facility until the CDC lifts or lightens social distancing recommendations. Dance Class Etiquette – Manners Matter!

Dance Class Etiquette – Manners Matter!

Celebrating Each Other’s Success

Celebrating Each Other’s Success

Celebrating Each Other’s Success Here’s a fun fact for you: In dance class, it is common etiquette for students to applaud after groups practice combinations or a student is asked to demonstrate.  This show of appreciation is a class custom across the entire dance world!  Dancers gain motivation by being able to watch and learn from each other.  At ProAm Dance Studio, this classroom tradition of recognizing effort is part of our dance DNA! Similarly, when a student achieves a goal—however big or…

New Teacher? No Problem!

New Teacher? No Problem!

New Teacher?  No Problem! Having a new teacher in class can be an awesome experience for any student, and especially a dance student!  Because dance is passed down from generation to generation and learned from person to person, every teacher’s perspective brings something special to the classroom.  Whether it’s the way they introduce a concept or how they explain a correction, a new teacher’s unique viewpoint can offer unexpected “lightbulb moments” in a child’s learning experience. Just like classes at school, our dance…

Why Is The Dress Code Important?

Why Is The Dress Code Important? It’s a common question to hear from dance parents and students alike: What purpose does the dress code actually serve?  We’re glad you asked!  ProAm Dance Studio’s dress code was established for a few very important reasons: Safety The number one factor in establishing a dress code is for all students’ safety in class.  A basic leotard and tights, along with hair pulled back and the appropriate shoes, ensures that there are no extraneous clothes or jewelry…

Beating The Back-To-School Blues

Beating the Back-to-School Blues “But I’m too tired!” It’s that time of year again!  School is back in session and after-school activities abound, meaning “I’m too tired” can become a frequent refrain from the backseat of your car. It’s not uncommon for us to hear about young dancers who fall asleep on the way to class during the first month or so of school.  Getting used to a new schedule is not easy!  Some children won’t be shy about stating how tired they…
